Canadians aged 65+ highly value sexual exclusivity compared to Canadians aged 18 to 24 — New Study

A nationwide study, “Mapping Contemporary Love and Intimacy Ideas in Canada,” reveals diverse partnership preferences among Canadians.

Most age groups prioritize romantic exclusivity in relationships, but sexual exclusivity gains importance with age.

Respondents aged 65 and over highly value sexual exclusivity (87%), while those aged 18 to 24 are slightly less inclined (66%).

In relationships, a majority prioritize romantic exclusivity (81%) with sexual exclusivity also being important (70%).

Heterosexual adults in relationships strongly desire both romantic (91%) and sexual exclusivity (83%). Conversely, 2SLGBTQIA+ adults in relationships have lower preferences (55% for romantic and 36% for sexual exclusivity).

Single participants exhibit varied preferences, with single women generally valuing both types of exclusivity.

Non-monogamous relationships have limited support, with only 16% favouring romantic and 6% favouring sexual exclusivity.
