TRAGIC: 3 children and 2 adults murdered in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

A tragic and shocking incident unfolded in Sault Ste. Marie, northern Ontario, where five individuals, including three children, lost their lives in two separate homes on Monday night. 

Sault Ste. Marie police responded to a 911 call at 10:20 p.m., discovering a 41-year-old individual deceased from a gunshot wound at the 200 block of Tancred Street. 

Ten minutes later, they received a second call at a residence on Second Line East, where a 45-year-old person had been injured by a gunshot wound.

Distressingly, the police also found a six-year-old, seven-year-old, and 12-year-old, all victims of gunshot wounds. Tragically, a 44-year-old individual was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

Authorities have confirmed that these deaths are interconnected and resulted from incidents of intimate partner violence.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Chief Hugh Stevenson expressed deep sorrow for the families affected by this tragedy, emphasizing the importance of community support and mental health resources. This level of violence was described as unprecedented in Sault Ste. 

prompting a call for vigilance and support for those in need.

Mayor Matthew Shoemaker extended the city’s condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the need for unity and support in the face of such an inconceivable act of violence.

Three of the children who lost their lives attended local schools, prompting the school board to provide counselling and support to the affected school communities. 

The entire town was deeply impacted by this tragedy, as it feels like a close-knit community, and the shock and sadness have reverberated across Sault Ste.
