CTA Seeks to Increase Awareness for Potential Power & Network Outages During Storm

The Canadian Telecommunications Association (CTA) has initiated an awareness campaign to prepare Canadians, especially in Atlantic regions, for potential power and network outages during storm season.

CTA President and CEO Robert Ghiz emphasized the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and their impact on telecommunications networks.

The campaign outlines steps to take before, during, and after a storm. Recommendations include

    • device charging,

    • having a backup power supply,

    • conserving battery power

    • texting or emailing instead of calling to avoid network congestion, and

    • using landlines for 911 calls to reduce mobile network traffic.

The campaign spans print and online ads and a dedicated website.
