Edmonton’s Valley Line Southeast LRT Opens November 4

The long-awaited Valley Line Southeast LRT in Edmonton is finally set to open for passenger service on November 4.

Edmonton's Valley Line Southeast LRT

This $1.8 billion project, a public-private partnership between TransEd and the City of Edmonton, is almost three years behind its original in-service date, which was initially scheduled for December 2020.

The construction of the LRT line has faced several challenges, including the discovery of cracks in concrete piers supporting elevated track sections and the need for a complete replacement of signalling cables along the entire route.

TransEd, a consortium composed of companies such as Fengate Capital Management, Bechtel, Ellis-Don, and Bombardier, is overseeing this project, with the involvement of other key team members like Transdev, ARUP, and IBI Group. The upcoming opening marks a significant milestone for Edmonton’s public transportation infrastructure.
