“Emotional:” University of Calgary law student called to the bar six years after his death

A former University of Calgary law student,

Armin Mojtahedi, who passed away in 2017 from an aggressive form of brain cancer before completing necessary on-the-job training, was called to the bar at the Calgary Courts Centre on Friday, September 29, 2023

Mojtahedi’s law school classmates lobbied the Law Society of Alberta to admit their friend, who died before finishing an articling position with a law firm, a requisite to full legal accreditation in Alberta.

The Law Society of Alberta approved a posthumous bar call in recognition of Mojtahedi’s efforts.

Mojtahedi’s parents travelled from their home in Vancouver to attend the bar admission ceremony. The event was held to celebrate his life and dedication to the profession.
