“I will not comply, they will have to jail me:” A Canadian responded to a new government regulation that requires online service providers to register

On September 29, 2023, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced a measure to modernize Canada’s broadcasting framework.

The measure involves getting the providers of online streaming services, social media services and podcasts to register with the government to ensure they “make meaningful contributions to Canadian and Indigenous content.”

Many Canadians who were affected by the regulation were not satisfied. One such is an X (Twitter) user who expressed her dissatisfaction with the following words:
