Maple Leafs Opens NHL Regular Season With Victory Against Canadiens 

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens played their first game of the NHL regular season on Wednesday night. 

The game was a wild one, with the Maple Leafs coming back from 2-0 and 5-3 deficits to win 6-5 in a shootout.

Auston Matthews scored his eighth career hat trick, with three goals in the game, including the game-tying goal with 4:32 left in regulation and the game-winning goal with 1:07 remaining on the clock. 

Mitch Marner scored the only goal of the shootout to seal the victory for Toronto. 

Other players who scored for Toronto were William Nylander and Noah Gregor. Alex Newhook, Cole Caufield, Jake Evans, and Jesse Ylonen replied for Montreal. The Canadiens’ goalie, Jake Allen, made 37 saves in the game.
