New Brunswick Residents to Receive Double CAIP Payments on October 13

Climate action incentive payment (CAIP) is a tax-free amount paid to help Canadians offset the cost of federal pollution pricing.

The payment is usually administered on the 15th of April, July, October and January. But if the 15th falls on a weekend, or a federal statutory holiday, CAIP is issued on the last business day before the 15th.

The federal government applied the federal backstop fuel charge in New Brunswick as of July 1, 2023.

As a result, residents of New Brunswick are expected to receive a double payment on October 13, 2023 to cover the July and October 2023 payments. They will receive a single quarterly payment in January 2024.

In addition, New Brunswick residents will start receiving rural supplements in April next year. This payment will include a retroactive rural supplement amount for the July 2023 to January 2024 period.
