    • 1929: Canadian law recognizes women as “Persons.” This granted certain women the opportunity to serve in the Senate of Canada and opened the door for increased women’s involvement in public and political spheres. 

    • 1954: Hurricane Hazel, the most devastating storm to ever strike the US, claimed the lives of 195 people in the US and Canada.
