How Does Poshmark Work in Canada?

Poshmark works differently depending on whether you’re looking to buy or sell.

Since I was a seller, I will focus on how Poshmark selling works in Canada.

First, you need to sign up on the platform and list your items. You can list items in any of the following categories:

  • Men
  • Women
  • Kids
  • Pets
  • Home
  • Beauty & Wellness
  • Electronics

After listing your items, you can share them to boost visibility and attract buyers.

Poshmark users may like, comment and share your listing. Engage with them to increase the visibility of your listing.

When someone orders your item, Poshmark will email you a pre-addressed label that you will print and attach to the item before sending it to Canada Post mailbox or your nearest post office.

Poshmark will not release your payment immediately until the buyer receives and confirms that the item is in the condition described.

Once your funds are released, you can redeem them under the “My Balance” section. Poshmark will then send you a direct deposit within 2 to 3 business days of request.

Poshmark Canada Fees

The platform is easy to access; there are no monthly fees involved.

However, you will be charged C$3.95 for every sale under C$20 and 20% for each sale above C$20.

There is also a GST/HST tax that will be charged separately depending on your province.

Frankly speaking, the commissions are on the high side, especially for those with low sales.

Pros and Cons of Poshmark Canada

Below are the main pros and cons of Poshmark Canada you should consider:

  • Social commerce: They provide a socialized marketplace that makes buying and selling fun. Their virtual shopping parties (Posh Parties) allow you to browse, buy or sell something together with your friends.
  • Easy to get started: Their mobile app is easy to use, making online commerce easier.
  • Better buyers: Compared with other online marketplaces, Poshmark has many users who buy items at more favourable prices.

  • High commission: If you’re selling low-price items, Poshmark may be costly for you as they charge a flat fee of $3.95 for every sale under C$20.
  • Tasking: Even though it’s an online marketplace, it’s not as simple as you think. You need to put in the work, from snapping your items, listing them, sharing them, and being active on the platform.
  • Poor customer support: Poshmark needs to work on its customer support both for buyers and sellers. They often delay responding to queries or shun you entirely.
  • No return on unfit items: This is an uncommon policy with many online marketplaces. Although it is more of a buyer issue, it may affect your reputation on the platform if your customers can’t return unfit items. You need to ensure you provide a clear description to avoid this incident.

Is Poshmark Canada Worth It?

Based on my experience and the amount I earned on the platform so far, I will say Poshmark is worth it!

To succeed with Poshmark, you need to be realistic with your descriptions.

As noted earlier, ensure you capture all the parts of your items to provide potential buyers with a clear picture.

Since Poshmark doesn’t accept returns of unfit items, you must ensure your potential buyers know what they’re buying to avoid damaging your reputation on the platform.

Also, you need to be realistic with pricing. Some people may price your $100 item at $30 or lower.

When you receive many offers that are drastically lower than your fixed price, you need to evaluate your pricing to put a realistic figure.

I have noticed that many of the complaints against Poshmark are caused by sellers who don’t do the right thing or those looking to rip off buyers.

Some of the sellers are just there to damage the reputation of genuine sellers.

Don’t be one of those sellers!
