Unifor begins strike at 3 GM facilities in Canada

Canadian labour union Unifor has initiated strikes at three General Motors facilities in the country after failing to reach a deal on a new contract to improve wages and pensions by a midnight deadline. 

The strike affects facilities in Oshawa, St. Catharines, and Woodstock in Ontario.

Unifor represents about 4,300 workers at GM. The union is looking for improvements for part-time workers seeking a path to full-time employment and pensions, as well as support for retiring workers. GM was disappointed about being unable to reach a deal at this time but will continue to negotiate with Unifor.
