University of Alberta Team Sweeps Three Awards with Innovative Security Robot at San Francisco Hackathon

A University of Alberta student-led team achieved remarkable success in a 24-hour hackathon in San Francisco, winning three top awards with their innovative roving security robot

The robot, named Paul-E Blart, patrols areas like homes, malls, and museums, utilizing image-recognition software to take photos and send alerts with images to homeowners or security personnel. 

The team’s victories encompassed categories like best overall hack, best usage of IBM Watson, and best hardware hack, showcasing the potential for enhancing security through robotics. 

The event drew 35 competing teams and highlighted the growing interest in technology and its applications, particularly in the field of security.
