University of Alberta to Return Hunka’s Family Donation of $30,000

The University of Alberta said it will return Yaroslav Hunka’s family donation of  $30,000 made to the university’s Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies in 2019.

Hunka was recently honoured by the former House Speaker Anthony Rota ignorantly of his past as a Ukrainian Nazi that served in the Waffen-SS Galicia Division during World War II.

Due to the embarrassment this has caused, Rota has resigned as Speaker and the PM rendered an apology on behalf of Canada.

Besides returning Hunka’s family donation, the  University of Alberta said it will also review its endowment policy to avoid future recurrence.
