We deserve “a pat on the back” in addressing inflation: — Deputy PM and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland

The increasing inflation in the country has remained a subject of debate among members of Parliament. Even more igniting is the 7-point increase in August that brought the rate to 4% from 3.3% in July.

Inflation rate in Canada

According to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre: “Not only is inflation up, it is rising, and rising faster.” He added that: “Inflation in Canada, after eight years of Justin Trudeau, is not only high, but it is broad.”

During the debate on inflation and cost of living on Tuesday (September 19), members of Parliament in the House of Commons challenged the liberals’ plan to address inflation in the country.

The debate was sparked by the federal government’s claim, through Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, that it’s doing everything to address inflation and deserves “a pat on the back”.

But the federal government’s plan to address the increasing grocery prices is “frankly ridiculous”, says Jagmeet Singh, the New Democratic Party leader.

At best, we can only hope to see how fast the liberal government measures will help in addressing the increase of inflation in the country.
